The Path to Co-Pur

I have to tell you, I’ve been on quite the journey for the past two years. There have been incredible highs, where I have experienced days that felt like I could conquer the world. Then there are those days of self-pity and wondering what on earth I’ve done with my professional life! This may or may not sound familiar to you, but it’s the life of a small business owner and an individual who has come down with a case of the entrepreneurial bug. But when it comes right down to it, I feel inspired. Inspired to create, inspired to share, and inspired to make a difference. This is what drives me. It makes me realize that no matter what kind of day I’m having, I’m doing what I’m meant to do. Business is not easy nor is it romantic, but it is incredibly rewarding. Needless to say, I love it!

Two years ago I began dabbling in creating homemade soaps. After a time of unemployment and “self-reevaluation” I decided to start a business. You see, I always knew I would one day own a business. I grew up in a family who owned a manufacturing company. You could say it was in my blood. My mom loves to tell the story of my first enterprise, I was a third grader.  As my mom explains it, I would make little newspapers and sell them to my school teachers for quarters. So you see, it was inevitable that I would eventually need to create a business of my own.

Today I have created an entire line of body products that are uniquely simple and mindful of the environment. My products contain only natural ingredients and essential oils instead of chemicals and synthetic fragrances. I have created a business that uses natural products to make a difference in people’s lives.

I’ve been asked by countless people when my products will be in Vitamin Cottage or Wholefoods, and quite often they are surprised when I tell them never. I believe Co-Pur’s products are capable of creating a greater social impact. Rather than sharing the company’s margins with the big natural food retailers of the world, I believe we can put that money right into the hands of the individuals within our community. Our goal is to create opportunity for say a “stay at home mom” looking to supplement her family’s income. We are working to create a socially impactful selling experience for women. This experience is communal, educational, and fun. At the end of the day, the most important thing to me, is to bring about awareness for natural products and to inspire individuals to make healthy lifestyle changes. My goal is to get people thinking about what they put on their bodies, the same way they think about the food they eat.

This way of thinking/living has been a journey for myself included. It’s been about making small changes in my life. It’s not always been easy, but in the end it’s been worth it! I’m not perfect, but everyday I’m presented with decisions that affect my health as well as my impact on the world. But I do think we can make simple changes that can become a part of our everyday lifestyle. Something simple like using an oil blend to moisturize with rather than a chemical filled lotion are easy changes to make, and in the end work so much better!

Thank you for letting me share my path to entrepreneurialism and natural living with you.  I’m very excited to see what the next two years have in store. I’d love to hear from you! Let me know how your journey towards natural living is going. I hope to use this blog as a platform for sharing ideas with you, as well as hearing your ideas!
